@Tamnymore there were 2 of us from my school. I remember a coach to Rolls-Royce in Bristol, the Welcome museum of gruesome bits, which at that time wasn't open to the public, and a fantastic time at Imperial College in an optics lab. We each wore goggles which made everything upside down, we did an experiment timing how long it took for each person to start seeing the right way up again. There were so many activities, it was wonderful to meet youngsters from around the world. There was a big Japanese contingent, who demonstrated a traditional tea ceremony. It was a fabulous opportunity for a working class kid at 17.

Youth Science Fortnight!! I went in (I think) 1973. It was fantastic! (Apart from when it was my turn to present my A level biology project. I followed an American lad whose project was oceanography. His dad was an oceanographer. My dad wasn't).

This exhibition looks great. I remember riding my motorbike from Deepest Darkest Dorset to go to Biba, it must have been around 1973. The most amazing place.

I'm pottering in the SR, making up the last Christmas FQs into gift bags. Boring but I'll be glad I did in November.

A Good Yarn / Re: Ploshkin - Weaving Along

That's great @Ploshkin. Very impressive. I suppose the next step is spinning your own wool - but I recall you saying your sheep are evershedders so I suppose you'd need to scavenge the wool from fences & brambles.  :S

Welcome @The Shrinking Sewist (which is not yet recognised by the name gremlin). You might want to drop 'the' to help with recognition? We look forward to seeing what you make. You can always chop your head off if you don't want to show your face! West Wales is a beautiful area, are you near to Abakhan for fabric supplies?

I've cut & stitched a long sleeve tee for DH. A bit more stash gone, and I've used up nearly all of the lovely Dinosaur Storm organic CL (leftover from GC tee shirts a couple of years ago) for a colour block top front. The neckband is on & I just stopped to Google the thumbhole cuffs.

@HenriettaMaria I was going to, several years ago, and researched the fabric, which was very expensive & difficult to get hold of. I bought key pouches instead. They worked ok for a few months but I think the fabric degraded, until the car could be unlocked while the keys were in the pouch, indoors with the front door closed. Since then, we put the keys in the microwave overnight. It is, of course, completely screened. I believe a thick lead box is the only way to fully protect against thieves with amplifier devices. (Since our Skoda is now 4 years old I don't think it'll be high on the thieves' list though)

@HenriettaMaria Reading University started out as an agricultural college. Even 50 years ago this was a thriving agricultural area. Free to enter, if you're ever anywhere near it's worth a visit.

Museum of English Rural Life  has a new exhibition. I've seen a few sewing machines in there but had no idea they have a huge collection. https://merl.reading.ac.uk/blog/2023/01/an-introduction-to-the-barnett-project/

Welcome. Looking forward to seeing what you make. Cushion covers are a good starting point to get familiar with your machine. Lots of experienced people who are generous with advice when needed.
