A bit of a 'do' / Re: Dinner dance dress
« on: March 29, 2017, 17:07:27 PM »
Pretty open to all suggestions really!! Not sure what the form is for a dinner dance?

I'm thinking not too short, knee length. Not strapless don't mind straps or sleeves. Fitted top half, fitted or flared skirt. Not halter neck as I don't think that's very flattering on me.

A bit of a 'do' / Dinner dance dress
« on: March 29, 2017, 16:35:20 PM »
We've been invited to a dinner dance (in September) and I would like to make my own dress. I have a large amount of two tone taffeta (freecycle!)  It's a very dark blue/green colour (similar to the photo below)

Of course I could buy some more fabric but it would be good to use up the stash a little!

Any dress pattern suggestions? I don't want it to look too bridsmaid-y which I worry if it's made from taffeta it could? (I'm aged 40 and dress size 12/14, pear shape)

There was quite a queue for the logo store on Saturday afternoon so might want to get there early.

yeah we had to queue up for 45 minutes to get in on New Years Eve  I wouldn't have done it but the girls were desperate to spend their Christmas money there and I couldn't face the tantrum and sulks if we didn't go as we'd been promising.

I've failed in following the rules properly as I have cut out and sewn up before photographing.   :ninja:

However this competition has inspired me to sort through my stash and be realistic about what fabric I will actually use (see post in For Sale forum!).

I have cut out a dress and a top and made the top up yesterday evening (super speedy for me) ready to wear on Saturday.

So thank you for inspiring me to reduce my stash - I can now shut the storage chest it lives in properly and the husband can't moan I've got too much!

Had a little clear out (so I can make room for more fabric  :ninja:)

Prices don't include postage which will be at cost

Teal/green spotted satin esq material
114cm x 2.5m
Not sure what exactly it is but it's thin and slippery. Very difficult to photograph to get the colour right, I would say it's teal but more on the green side.
£5

https://flic.kr/p/SKn8sM
https://flic.kr/p/SKn8Qa

Parrots poly cotton remnant
Main piece is 88x60cm and then there's another 60cm on the bottom
£2

Flowers poly cotton
114x140cm
£3

https://flic.kr/p/SKn72a

Floral and insects vintage fabric. This is fairly thick, probably upholstery fabric?
I have cut bits out of this so difficult to measure but if it was square (and not with cut outs) it would be 130x118 cm so still a decent amount for a couple of cushions or bag maybe?
£3

Grey patterned thick fabric. Upholstery/canvas sort of fabric
140cm x 2m
£5

Green leafy patterned fabric.
Not sure what it is! The front is very soft but the back is almost like rubber? Quite thick and heavy.
155cm x 2m
£5

https://flic.kr/p/SKn4Cn (the back is white but in trying to photograph the green side right it has made it look a bit yellow)

Brown suede-like fabric again with a rubber back, quite thick and heavy

Welcome Lounge and Information / Re: Karma
« on: March 08, 2017, 17:06:21 PM »
Oh heck I have a horrible feeing I may have inadvertently bu88ered up someones Karma by cicking on the thumbs up /down. I cicked on a thumbs up and nothing seemed to happed so I tried the thumbs down and ditto so tried them both again for good measure. Soon after that .. when I went to go to another page my computer lost the internet connection so maybe that was why nothing was happening ... but just in case thought I'd best mention it.

So just to be clear  ... if i click the thumbs up the heart number should go up?

I'm not sure about the thumbs down seems a bit mean I can't imagine a time when I'd need to use it.

Can you see who's given you good karma as you can the 'like' on face book? And presumably you use it for the same reasons ie you've read the post found it interesting /upifting /informative but have nothing to add, or no time to, but you want the writer to know you've read and appreciate it.

L X

I just thumbs upped you and your heart rate went up  ;)

I'm not sure how many things I will actually make in a month - my average is .5  0_0

I will give it a go though. I do have plans to make some new cushions from some lovely woodland material I've had for *a while* and my two young girls are always looking at my fabrics and saying 'can you make me such and such from this' so maybe I actually will! Have to be quick simple things though otherwise it won't be much of a stash buster!

The last and only time the little pocket rocket got to supervise me so a poignant pic.
A few hours after that pic was taken last Friday evening, she died from injuries after being clipped by a vehicle.
Much sadness.

Oh Morgan so sad to read that  :'(
