A Good Yarn / Re: Is there such a thing as a "small" knitting machine?
« on: March 11, 2019, 10:04:16 AM »
From watching my mother in law on hers I 'd say they were long rather than large.  No getting away from the length as they need to be wide enough to do a front of a jumper.

There are little round ones for socks - but they are few and expensive.

Here we go, with big brother as Dr Who (David Tennant, his best mate went as Matt Smith). Sewing for brother was taking up sleeves, narrowing trousers and shortening tie.

Love the penguin too Jessie!

Bogwoppit's first entry (there may not be another but I can hope)

World book Day - Lift the flap - Human body.

My youngest helped me draw internal organs on a plain t-shirt. I sewed a rib cage from a funny brushed fabric. Thought it was felt but it is woven and frays so I did a narrow zigzag around all the edges before cutting the holes. Used a permanent marker to highlight edges under instruction from the wearer and drew a spine and shoulder blades on the solid back. Sternum is double and has velcro so it can be opened to show the organs.

Skin coloured waistcoat from lining material. I used Oliver and S parachute polo as a base shape and added front button bands and velcro. Neck and arms are bias bound.  My husband said why are you taking so much time over that - I was practicing techniques on a fabric I've not used before.

Might managed a modelled pic in the morning.

Wow! @b15erk that is so perfect! She looks so thrilled to!
Wish I had a girl now.

Skin waistcoat done bar fastenings and edges. Made another of felt to be cut up into ribcage. Thought that was easier than separate construction.

Next installment after school. Our school do the dressing up on Friday so I have an extra day. Also do t have to dress up when I go in to help tomorrow!

I don't know if this will count, not done any actual sewing yet, but will do soon. My youngest is going to world book day at school and has chosen to go as his  "lift the flap human body" book!

So far he has helped me draw internal organs onto a t-shirt. Next i have been instructed to create an opening rib cage and skin. Found some appropriate material and now getting my thinking cap on. Probably sew felt onto stiff interfacing, sew felt backbone to t-shirt, link back bone to sternum with ribs and have double sternum that opens like a door. Then sew waistcoat type vest with flesh coloured lining to go over the top.

I used to do a lot of cross stitch and only used a hoop on floppy linen that I needed to keep square.

My poppy and corn circle on a napkin gets used in church every remembrance Sunday and I'm always amazed that I did it when I was still at school. I copied the design from a library book onto graph paper with coloured pencils.

What I can never understand is why they say "everyone is cheaper/better" etc and not just go to them in the first place.

How about these?
Petite Pegs for Patterns for Pirates

They are free and could easily be lengthened.

PS my hair makes me resemble a bogwoppit. I don't frequent swamps all that often. Although we did make one at school today experimenting with sand and water and mud.

I have done in the past, rarely nowadays. Don't knit as much as I used to. Last time I went on three quarters of the forums I used to follow had died a death.

So 6 months on and I've revisited the Aldi quilt.

I went random and it evolved as I went. I'd packed it away with the little blocks pinned in twos so sewed them together and laid them out on the floor making sure no colours met. Repeat several times and this is the result. 53"x63".

Next to do a border of the plain and then possibly one of the patterns. Not sure how to do that just yet. Or the width. I put the strips around to see how much I had left.

I did ladder stitch when making balls from pentagons. Don't see why it cant be used flat.
