Fun with Fabric / Re: Help please - Sewing on knitted fabric
« on: December 18, 2017, 19:04:01 PM »
Definitely the overlocker, I can't advise about 3 or 4 thread because a lot depends on the thickness and stretch of the fabric.

Good to see you at last, I wondered where you were, so much so I had to nip over to your blog to make sure you were still sewing   :|

Welcome from me too Vivianne, ask as many questions as you like one of us will no doubt have the answer, I suspect between us we probably have hundreds of years worth of experience

I must admit I like Vogue patterns, I don't think it's got anything to do with the cut though they just fit me better than any of the others and means I don't have to faff about making my own.

A Good Yarn / Re: My Knitting Journey HAS Finished I Fear
« on: November 29, 2017, 21:45:36 PM »
Think of it this way - there is actually only one knitting stitch same as you get if you make a chain with a piece of yarn and your finger. (purl is just plain done from the back)
All knitting, even complicated looking arans and lace, is just doing things with that one stitch.

Exactly

You might do better to get a qualification rather than jump straight in. Doing the course would inform you as to whether your current skills are good enough

I totally agree with this, I have no idea how old you are but if you're young enough a qualification could open a whole new world up for you.

If I've run out of my stock and have needed to trace something I have used greasproof paper before today. ☺️

In the wardrobe / Any ideas?

I'm most likely posting this in the wrong place so apologies in advance if I have.
I've got a piece of cashmere I'd like to make a skirt with, the only problem is I'm allergic to any form of wool that comes into contact with my skin for long I end up scratching like I've got fleas.  I don't wear full underslips and hate tucking blouses etc into waistbands because I've got a bit of a belly nowadays
