A Good Yarn / Sleeveless top for Mum
« on: February 26, 2021, 16:08:14 PM »
Well i've just finished this sleeveless top for mum for Mothers day, knitted in King Cole 4ply and i must say what lovely soft wool to knit with, bought a second lot in the bluebell shade, not sure what i'll be knitting yet but it will get used.

Next project is this chunky jacket, thought it would be nice for the autumn and those chilly evenings, i'm using King Cole Chunky tints in the woodland shade. The back is complete and halfway up the left front so far.

Patchwork & Quilting ... Welcome to the Darkside / Back again
« on: June 02, 2020, 09:03:41 AM »
Well I’ve been lurking for an awful long time on here, reading all the posts but not having any urge to sew anything  :'(. Since my sister passed away which is a year ago this week all my equipment has laid dormant, well I now finally have the urge to make something so I thought why not move across to the darkside  :ninja:.
I know I would like to make a quilt, I’ve never made one before, although I have done a few blocks in the past and I’m not even sure what pattern I will be doing. I do quite like this one, aunt grace it’s called

Through the week I’ve been ordering fabric in the form of jelly rolls & mini charms etc so once all this arrives I can have a play and see what I can come up with.....Watch this space

In the wardrobe / Back to it tomorrow mcCalls 5640
« on: June 30, 2017, 19:13:48 PM »
Well tomorrow I'm going to unpick the gathering around the neck and do by hand :'( as I can't get it to gather properly. Will be adding a deep black band to the hem and black yoke. Haven't made clothes for absolutely yonks so bare with me on this one. Fabric is a bit whacky, so won't dare wear it further than the front door :S I might get arrested if I go out in this, should act my age really and make something for a podgy 50year old (soon to be 51) but hey who cares what other people think

Patterns Discussion / Neckline McCalls 5640
« on: June 26, 2017, 09:26:11 AM »
Has anyone got any tips or advice on how to gather a neckline to fit the yoke? I've followed the pattern by sewing one row of long stitches followed by a second row and trying to pull the threads but the thread keeps snagging? I've unpicked it twice as it wasn't good enough and I did contemplate using the gathering foot on the sewing machine but wasn't sure. It's been such a long time since I've made some clothes that I'm unsure which direction to go in. I've attached a picture

32 cones of 500m metallic thread, not sure what price they will be, they are on Amazon prime deal at 10:10am tomorrow.

Sewing Machines / Which sewing machine
« on: June 03, 2017, 20:24:51 PM »
I'm looking at buying a new sewing machine for my birthday in a few weeks time, I's there any particular make that you would recommend?

So looking forward to tomorrow, it will be the first day in my new sewing room  :loveit:: can't wait to get started on my blocks for my memory quilt although I haven't a clue where or what I'll be starting with. I was going to paint the room first but I do have two weeks off work so can do it next week, it is clean and tidy so I'm not that bothered  :D will have the house to myself all two weeks as hubby will be at work. Might quickly pop in to town to the fabric shop for just a quick look and maybe into hobbycraft on my way back, naughty really but I just can't help myself, I will try to be good and not buy too much
Will post some pics of my first block attempt

Patchwork & Quilting ... Welcome to the Darkside / Memory quilt
« on: June 01, 2017, 20:06:39 PM »
Has anyone ever made a memory quilt? I thought it would be a great project to start, all made out of blocks to include significant things/moments throughout my life. Am I just being ridiculous?  ><

Sewing Spaces and Furniture / Sewing Chair

Can anyone recommend a sewing chair with castors, needs to look nice as well. I like the one I've attached but not sure if it's suitable.

Patchwork & Quilting ... Welcome to the Darkside / Is it too much
« on: May 28, 2017, 18:47:58 PM »
Well I promised to pop over to the dark side so here I am. Managed to find a picture of the patchwork that I started, need to find the actual bag of stuff itself. I was looking at doing some type of autumnal looking quilt, do you think it's a bit too much? Should I add in some plainer squares? I can't help thinking that maybe I should do alternate plain with pattern, new to this so looking for some advice from the experts. This is all I've done so I can unpick if needed.

Sewing Spaces and Furniture / New sewing room
« on: May 28, 2017, 13:28:23 PM »
I'm so flipping excited, just acquired the spare room as hubby no longer uses it, it's only taken 5yrs to get it :)
It's in a mess at the moment and needs redecorating, not sure whether just to emulsion or repaper?
I have a horn cabinet and also a dressing table to put my overlocker on that I may paint white. Does white furniture look better? Just ordered some additional hanging storage for the small cupboard in the corner behind the door to put the fabric.

Hi, I'm new... / Newbie
« on: May 28, 2017, 13:13:41 PM »
I'm Di, 51yrs old and have just started sewing again after a long time away from the hobby. I have lots of sewing bits, lots of fabric etc just need the ideas to get going. So glad to see the start of a new sewing website after TSF disappeared. Looking for inspiration along the way.

Just acquired a new sewing room from hubby who no longer uses it, so excited to get it organised as it looks a right mess at the moment.
