Thanks for the fabric and super speedy postage. The fabric was received yesterday. I’m sure that’s a record for anything I’ve got recently.

It’s a bit late but I’m doing a WEA course with Amy Miller and she’s very good. I don’t know if you could contact her through the WEA site.

I’m really interested in the mustard Viscose, and the blue scuba as well if no one else has baggsied it. That blue denim looks lovely but I expect is very heavy. It would be brilliant as a long skirt. I hope someone has the bravery to make it into one. This is very kind of you. Definitely a lift in COVID times.

@Iminei What lovely books. Unfortunately I’ve got many - and similar and don’t quilt any more. I hope they find good homes, especially the Japanese ones. I remember searching for mine  :loveit:

I’ve just looked at the Simplicity Spring patterns and realised they have re- issued those with different numbers. They’re not ‘hacking’, my mistake, they’re just really boring envelope graphics. At least they’ve used the same ones so you should be able to see if they’re a duplicate of one you’ve got.

@UttaRetch I hadn’t realised they’d done this. How silly to alienate their normal buyers. There’s something I really don’t like about the new pattern front design. I wasn’t very keen on the simplicity hacking ones but these are worse. The new photos are set against such a busy background, and not well shot, that the garment is difficult to see.

@Tamnymore Stockport market is where I started my sewing. My Mum used to go there for fabric for my “domestic science” efforts....a bit of a failure when I was 12. I know Stockport market isn’t anything like it used to be, but I got wonderful velvets and floral fabrics from there in the 70s. Glad it’s managing to save itself. Now Stockport has got to do the same!

I never bought Laura Ashley duvet covers and my husband hated all the florals but we did buy some nice wallpaper once. Nice until we tried to hang it and it stretched like anything.

I too remember with fondness my long Laura Ashley dress with flounce. Mine was quite hard wearing and never shrank though I did get some of their later prints which faded terribly. Does anyone remember the bags of tiny remnants they sold for patchwork quilts! I still have some of the bits. That cotton was quite heavy too.
In the late 80s, Laura Ashley expanded and opened lots of shops, one in Canterbury.  The dresses were lovely, but the quality was sometimes a bit off. I once bought a dress ( in their sales) and when I got it home realised the velvet nap was in the wrong direction on one piece- completely unwearable! Their quality control could be odd even then. I think the rapid expansion damaged them as a family company. The shop closed and they moved business to a trading estate - entirely the wrong place - and always had very few customers when I visited which hasn’t been for at least 10 years.
Re the markets, we used to get beautiful remnants in Stockport market. It helped my teenage sewing no end.

Fun with Fabric / Re: Girl Charlee UK has ceased trading!

I was shocked to read this too, though it does explain why I managed to buy fabric for £1.99 a metre in their recent sale. Most of their fabric never really appealed to me but this did - brown with large flowers. I’m sad it’s gone though. I’m sad when any fabric shops closes down.

I just had a look - way too late of course and noticed they have a Husqvarna 2D reader / writer and an embroidery cards for the Quilt Designer machine - about £100-150 . I’ve no idea if that is good but thought someone might be interested.

@sewchic - It looks just perfect for what I wanted which is a Vogue Tilton skirt (or maybe Butterick). I've made this once before for summer and it was great. Hoping this will be as good for Winter. Thanks to @Efemera for putting it up for sale  0_0
ps Actually its Butterick 6180.

Hi Efemera. I’d love the check ponte weight jersey. It’s perfect for a skirt I’m planning. Hope it’s still available.
