Hi, I'm new... / Re: Hi from Australia!

@MelK hello and welcome, you joined on a special day  :loveit:

In my opinion (if it's total twaddle please feel free to correct me) any machine is a good one to start on, but it's worth getting one that isn't too basic as once you get rolling you'll probably want to upgrade anyway   :sew:

@Marniesews @sewingj I have only recently started using a rotary cutter, it misses, it drags, I feel there is a definite technique which I struggle to attain, I reckon I press too hard, tbh I don't really like them. Today I decided to cut a pattern out with scissors and was far more comfortable with them. I will persist with the rotary cutter as it is quicker for some stuff  ><

Welcome. I inherited my mum-in-law's machine about four years ago, just in time as the v basic modern Singer I'd bought from Argos had started to creak! At first I was terrified to use it, it had a push pad with all manner of options but now I wouldn't want to be parted from it  :loveit:

Your Favourite Suppliers / Re: Lost another shop

Sadly, saw that Dutton for Buttons Ilkley shop has now closed down.  York and Harrogate are still open but it's a much longer journey.  Very few button sellers on the internet now too, except China.  There used to be some lovely ones.

Have you looked at Ray Stitch?

House Beautiful / Re: What interior to use for a bench cover
« on: February 10, 2019, 11:12:46 AM »
@annieeg as a fellow dog owner i feel your pain. I've seen a similar idea to what @Greybird mentioned, where you take a few pillows and stitch a long cover for them. Lay them in a line and 'section' the cover so the pillows slip inside the cover at one side. I'm maybe not explaining it very well, hopefully somebody else will come along with an idea of what I mean and give you tips....   ><

@Bloobell just had a look for Merrick & Day online and their address is given as Gainsborough, which, if it's the one you're referring to, is about 15 miles away from me - happy days  ;)

@Celia, that could be the answer. TBH I didn't look at the Disney ones, knew I wouldn't use them

Thanks @sewmuchmore, but I would have gone for the Marcy Tilton and the Katharine Tilton patterns, so, whoever wants them, go for it, @annieeg

@WildAtlanticWay they are the exact ones pictured in the previous post. So, yes, it seems strange. The ones I got are a 6pack, is that maybe why? Did you get a bigger pack?
