Repair job on lace

I've got a dressing table set that my SIL bought me around the late 60's, from Spain so not expensive.  Over the years I've been a bit rough with the centre piece, stuck in the washing machine etc.  Eventually it has started to part company around the lacy edges so being a bit sentimental on some things I've decided to add a backing to it with some fine net I bought on Ebay.

What would be the most suitable stitch for adding the backing.

I’d just hand stitch... slip stitch.
