With help from my friend I cut out the semi circular skirt from the lovely lemons fabric. He helped with manipulating the 3.5 metres of fabric on the table, pinned the pattern pieces on and I did the cutting. All the time he kept muttering "this is complicated and you do this for a hobby?"
There are only four pieces to it, I chuckled but it was nice to have help. We are a bubble of two. He is the only person I see, I do talk to my neighbours through the kitchen window at a safe distance as they go by on their way to Asda or bus stop.
I'll be pleased when I feel OK to start sewing the skirt.

Sounds good - a summery lemon skirt in the make (so looking forward to spring weather!) and a friend to rely on and spend time with. Both so very important.

Haha - how far we’ve come from the days when knowing how long making stuff took was normal. Pockets? I have an almost semi circular summer skirt which comes out every year, so easy to wear.

Not keen on side  pockets in skirts @jen I tend to stuff them with tissues and stuff which spoils the look. I like jeans style pockets in trousers and skirts though.

That sounds as though it's going to be a lovely skirt, @Silver Rose  - all we need is some decent weather....... xx

I did a bit of pinning and tacking and put the skirt on Mimi (my mannequin) to get a good look at the way it hangs. Very 1950s, it needs a paper nylon petticoat underneath, who remembers them?
There is enough spare fabric to make an apron or a cushion cover for my garden chair.

Everything has to have pockets for me where at all possible. Not for putting things in, just somewhere to put my hands!

Machine threaded up and a new needle in and I have sewn the first seam  0_0. The yoke is next then I must remember where I put the zip. More tomorrow maybe I an a bit sore now.

I managed to sew the seams and put the yoke on. I found the zip so when my friend has got the ironing board set up for me I can press the seams and tack the zip in. So, on the home straight now.

Another small step, the zip is in and the bias binding tacked to form the waist facing, it is a bright lemon colour to match the lemons on the skirt. It won't be seen but I always use a contrast when I finish a skirt waist like this. The sun is out now so I'll ask my friend to take pics of the jersey dress on me when he comes round later.

This is how it is looking so far, the yellow bias binding will be turned over to form a facing and I topstitch  two parallel lines to define the waistband.

So bright and cheerful.
Didn’t your friend make a lovely job of cutting out?   Now if you could just train him to use the machine.

Beautiful skirt Silver Rose.  The yellow contrast is just right, have you thought about putting a band of yellow around the hem, this could be done so that the actual hemming up of the skirt doesn't show at all.

Thank you the thought had crossed my mind @Ohsewsimple. @Elnnina  I have got enough bias binding to do that .
