I found that the big prints, which I fussy cut, were the biggest challenges to me.  Usually I tend to work with blenders, small all-over prints and batiks and choose by colour rather than pattern.
Brenda.  My machines are: Corona, a 1953 Singer 201K-3, Caroline, a 1940 Singer 201K-3, Thirza, 1949 Singer 221K, Azilia, 1957 Singer 201K-MK2 and Vera, a Husqvarna 350 SewEasy about 20 years old. Also Bernina 1150 overlocker and Elna 444 Coverstitcher.

Batiks aren’t my thing at all, I’ve found them really hard but I’ve done my best.

I've caught up with adding the blocks on

https://sewingplaceboom.weebly.com

It is great to see how differently everyone is interpreting the same piece of fabric!

@fajita you are so good at mixing multiple patterns together- I find that so hard to do as I wonder if they ‘clash’ or look too busy…

Can I ask how you did Efemera’s one? Is if machine pieced or something different?

For Effies block - I saw the pattern (rock garden) in a book called 210 traditional quilt blocks. But the instruction part of the pattern, although heavy on photography for how to construct it, has a tiny (1.5” sq) diagram of the pieces. I did attempt to size up with a pencil and ruler, but am afraid I was a bit inaccurate and gave up. My husband stepped up and resized it for me. He took one quarter of it and sized it to 12.5”. I made a mock of this and decided it left too much blank in the centre. So he changed it to encompass all four quarters in 12.5”, including a quarter inch border.

I then pieced it on the machine. Did each quarter individually and then joined them with the dreaded diamonds.

What I also did, was mark the back of each individual piece with a pencilled in quarter inch border. This was great for better accuracy.

Such a lot of work and I am sure that Efemera will be very grateful!

These are lovely. Be very afraid when you see mine - I'm not a block  maker person!!!

Don't be shy @Catllar ! Some of my blocks are on the simple side. And I had to seam-rip and re-sew more than one that somehow finished at like 12.15 inches instead of 12.5!

@RJR_38 I emailed you some pictures of my completed blocks, did it go through? I can email again or upload here.
US to UK, brought all the fabric and yarn with me
