Buttonholes 201k
« on: April 14, 2023, 10:13:39 AM »
Hi all,
This question concerns using a buttonhole attachment on my 201k. When I attach the feed dog cover plate the space for fabric between the attachment and plate gets really tight. I can just use the attachment on a newer machine when I can drop the dogs, but just wondering about any ways to fix this with the 201. Removing the feed dogs??? And just to advise that I have checked that I'm putting the fabric in with the presser foot lifted.

You can drop the dogs on a 201 - it's from underneath and you need to know what to unscrew  :)

Scroll down this PDF of the booklet - provided free from ISMACS - and you'll find a picture and instructions on the booklet's page 34

Yes, just drop the feed dogs on a 201, and when you lower the foot/buttonholer make sure it goes down smartly to give a good grip on the fabric.
Brenda.  My machines are: Corona, a 1953 Singer 201K-3, Caroline, a 1940 Singer 201K-3, Thirza, 1949 Singer 221K, Azilia, 1957 Singer 201K-MK2 and Vera, a Husqvarna 350 SewEasy about 20 years old. Also Bernina 1150 overlocker and Elna 444 Coverstitcher.

Thanks very much. I simply took them out to get the buttonholes done, but will have a play with lowering for the next time.
