Found this on a RTW.
1/2" tape is overlocked in with the body and edging, then turned over to cover the overlocked seam. Might look nice with a pretty ribbon instead.

It's quite common to finish sweatshirt and hoodie necks with tape but that's an interesting way of attaching it. When I've done it, I've found it hard to get a neat finish with all the layers.

Don’t think ribbon would work as well as it doesn’t bend. The tape they’ve used does give a bit.

That looks like twill tape which I've used before. It's reasonably pliable.

I've seen tape before - just along the back of the neck of course, otherwise there'd be no stretch to get your head through.
