When my hairdresser came earlier this week he asked me if I had any idea as to the value of his mum’s old Singer, he thinks it’s about 100 years old, has most if not all accessories including the manual, and is in working order.  Is it worth trying to sell and, if so, where as he doesn’t want to throw it out if it could be of use to someone.

I hope this post doesn’t contravene TSP rules as he has become a good friend over the years and I would like to help if possible.

It depends on the model and condition, probably £25-£50, a little more if it's a 201 and quite a bit more if it's a featherweight!

There will be a metal plate on it somewhere with the serial number.  Use the ISMACS website to look up the date/model.

Advertise it locally, for collection only (unless he is prepared to deliver).  It's really not worth all the effort (and cost) to pack it properly for shipping and even so there's no guarantee that it won't be dropped and suffer damage.
Brenda.  My machines are: Corona, a 1953 Singer 201K-3, Caroline, a 1940 Singer 201K-3, Thirza, 1949 Singer 221K, Azilia, 1957 Singer 201K-MK2 and Vera, a Husqvarna 350 SewEasy about 20 years old. Also Bernina 1150 overlocker and Elna 444 Coverstitcher.
