removing a dart

I found a tutorial that shows how to remove a bust dart from the front bodice and get rid of the added fullness at the hem.  Is it possible to eliminate only part of a dart?  That is, can this procedure be used to take out some of the fullness of the dart and have a smaller dart?

I used the technique of moving the dart to the hem and it results in the front hem dipping (at least on my t-shirt it did).  I'd suggest you split the dart into two separate darts and then lose one of them only.  Which one might take some toile-ing to get right, of course.
