1940's house coat renovation project

Hi all, I've a 1940's housecoat that's in a delicate state. I believe it's made from Marspun (fabric 1005). It's not really wearable but I aim to repair it, seams and collar, but the piece at the back under the collar has slightly shredded. I've used some hemming tape to hold it together, but was wondering if there's anything like it, that is broader to cover the back panel inside? Something of a sheer nature as opposed to stiffening?
It's an M&S wrap around and has a utility mark. The colour is (it's kind of floral) has faded and run.
My aim is to eventually take a pattern off it.

You could use a very lightweight fusible interfacing to iron on the inside.  There’s nothing sheer as such. I use a very lightweight called Fine Sheer Fusible.  But there is also fusible cotton lawn.  Some for consideration.

@BettyOrchard I have moved your topic to In the Wardrobe. I'm sure you will have many more good suggestions shortly.

Thanks, will look into them. They sound like the sort of thing, the dress just needs holding together to preserve it.  :)

I read that Marspun fabric was made from spun rayon?

Have you seen all the info re M& S archives etc?

I’ll post the links I found below as I found it really interesting what M&S have done
and all the info that is available too.

Vilene do a very lightweight interfacing, which you can get through Empress Mills, who I can recommend.
