Easy Jumper
« on: November 20, 2017, 13:54:14 PM »
I have never completed a knitted garment in my whole life  :| I hadn't knitted at all for 50+ years  :| until I have recently knitted a rabbit and a teddy :)
I want to knit a jumper for myself. Can anyone recommend an easy, foolproof pattern please?
Thank you.

Sorry Low, can't help with the jumper recommendations but have you discovered

https://www.ravelry.com

It the most wonderful recourse, all the patterns have reviews from people who have made them and you can search by pattern, yarn or a variety of options.

It is of course also a wonderful time waster. :D :wool:

Let us know what you chose and we can all cheer you on.

Is it any particular style you want?
For something easy I would suggest a fairly chunky yarn with big needles and a simple stocking stitch sweater with drop shoulders so there isn't a lot of shaping to do.  A multi colour yarn will make it more interesting than using a plain colour (like James C Brett chunky marble)
Life's too short for ironing.

Lowena if you PM me your address I have a good book for you.

This was the first jumper I knitted, from a very chunky yarn though. It's nice and warm!

Have you made any progress Lowena?  That sweater of Fran's is lovely, and looks fairly simple.

I have to say, winter nights and knitting needles go very well together!

No, J, I seem to have stalled. I can't find anywhere to look at actual patterns ( I need to read their complexity ) I'll have another look in town tomorrow

Have you looked here? http://www.allsquareknits.co.uk/index.htm there are some absolutely gorgeous patterns, all made of simple squares  :). I love, love these patterns!  Lovely pick-up-and-put-down knits and that happy glow when a square is finished, no losing heart halfway through a project because the project is broken down into a square repeated :)

You can do it  :D

I need to send you this book I have Lowena - it's wrapped and ready to go!

The jumper above is in the book but there are some others which could be good. The jumper above is knit in aran so it goes quick and it has lovely natural shaping due to the ribbing on the bottom.

I think Aran is a lovely weight to knit - it grows nice and quickly, but doesn't feel as cumbersome as chunky sometimes does.
I might look as though I'm talking to you, but inside my head I'm sewing.
