Please can you help with my layout?

I thought I was being clever doing this as a disappearing nine patch but I now see that with the red and blue little squares I've come a cropper.

I have twelve of each big square colour, six with red and six with blue, if that makes sense. Is there a way of having it so it appeals to my sense of everything's got to be in order or am I going to have to jumble the whole lot up and not enjoy the rest of the process?

I like that!

I too struggle with 'randomness' so that would be a good layout for me.

Maybe have red cornerstones on the blue diagonal and vica versa ??? -<

I agree with Imi. I like the layout, simple and effective.

It's lovely. I always lay mine out on the bed and move it around until I'm happy with the way it looks. :)

After getting myself even more confused trying Imi's suggestion  :| , I gave up and started again.

I've already done unpicking to get the hearts squares all going in the same direction, I'm choosing to ignore the other ones that aren't   ;)

Thank you all  :)

Maybe a staggered layout that would produce diagonals of each color.
You can't scare me. I taught high school for 32 years.

That's what I was aiming for the first time, Sara-S, but came unstuck with my reds and blues. The lesson I have learned with this and most of my other just throw it together projects is to follow a pattern!  0_0

The finished article, at long last! I have learnt a lot from this one and from watching lots of YouTube. The main thing was how to put such a big one through the machine to quilt it and to use a walking foot. I've now set up a machine with a walking foot full time and am using my other one for piecing. I'm very lucky and happy to have two  :)

It was Aldi fat quarters that I used. I managed to get another bundle before they sold out and have a few bits left. I'm going to attempt an Irish chain quilt with the blue and red that's left.

Well done.  The dark blue binding frames it really nicely.
Life's too short for ironing.

Thank you all very much  :) . The backing is the same as the binding. A sheet from Ikea. I also did a QAYG using it. There's not enough for a hanky left  :D
