Hello all! As previously mentioned my nephew and his wife have presented the world with a little girl. This is a great excuse for a 1Mx1M Baby quilt!

I have finished the top and have ordered the cotton batting which i have been waiting for. Today it came and i cannot wait...

Patchwork & Quilting ... Welcome to the Darkside / FQ Ironing
« on: April 24, 2021, 10:47:55 AM »
Hello All!

My nephew and his wife have been blessed with a baby. Of course this means a baby quilt!
The thing is, as i took out the intended fabric to use i needed to iron the fat quarters and eighths.
I seem to remember buying these about 5 years ago (which means probably 10 or more) and
now they have mega-fold lines. I have been ironing and ironing with steam but the fold lines are still there. :headbang:
They have been reduced to being mostly unnoticable, but i wanted to ask if there is a better, of at least more effective way? Hanging whilst showering definitely does not work...

I know we all love to iron and press (yes, thats ironic - no pun intended) but is there a more effective way? At least it made me press out the last 2 dresses i made for dear wife... ;)

« on: March 25, 2021, 17:38:26 PM »
Hello-

I have been looking at a machine or two from Uten.

From where do these machines come? They look simalar to a Singer model (Brilliant?)
But i cannot be sure - I did a Wiki check and they are nowhere to be found. Any Info?

Thanks,

Hello-

One of the machines i have been lusting over lately has 200+ stitches, among them 8! different
types of one-step-buttonholes. Is there some info online as to the differences and differing reasons
of 8 different types?

Sewing Machines / A Funny Question...
« on: February 15, 2021, 16:11:04 PM »
Hello-

After seeing a number of videos online i noticed that i have a habit, though i do not know if it is

bad -

When i put a spool of thread on my maschines with horizontal spool i automatically reach for the

largest size spool holder, never using the smaller ones, even with smaller sized spools.  Is this bad

somehow? Why?

Thanks,

Sewing Machines / Being my Brothers keeper...
« on: November 17, 2020, 12:14:43 PM »
Hello all!

I now, through Ebay; have become the owner of a somewhat used Brother 10Anniversary.

It seems to have an issue with the back side of the stitches showing alot of the thread from the upper side. Not nesting, but 8o% of the understitching was with the upper thread.

After performing a simple cleaning, blowing out and flossing  the upper tension I then removed the lower drop-in bobbin to find that the tension is, due to a small drop of epoxy over the screw, inadjustable.

The cleaning helped, but only a little.

I then changed bobbins and it helped a bit more, but it is still not perfect... The maschine came only with the bobbin that was in at the time it was sent to me - and certainly not the original!

My question --- is the Anniversary 10 unusually sensitive to the type of bobbin used?

Are there any other causes of unequal tension i should check into?

Thanks Muchly,

William David

In the wardrobe / Sewing World Patterns

Hello!

I have a few Sewing World Magazines with the Patterns they came with. It is not clear (at least to me) if the patterns include the necessary seam allowances. Does anyone know this?

Thanks for the help.
